HOW JAI-ALAI IS PLAYED:
The most popularly played format of professional Jai-Alai needs eight single players or eight doubles teams for a game.
Each player wears a different color jersey, numbered one through eight on the front. These numbers are traditionally referred to as “post numbers.”
Post numbers signify the order in which the athletes will play in that game.
A game begins with the first match-up between the player wearing the #1 red jersey ("post 1”) serving to the player wearing the #2 blue jersey (“post 2”).
Player 1 must serve the ball so that it lands between the 4 and 7 lines marked on the court’s sidewall. If the served ball lands on the court, between those lines, or Player 2 catches the served ball in the air, then the serve is good. Once the ball is in play, the rally continues until one of the players wins that match-up.
The player who wins the match-up stays on the court, while the losing player exits and waits for another turn at the end of the eight-player rotation.
The game continues this way until one of the eight players in the line-up earns a total of 7 POINTS FOR THE WIN.
A game doesn't officially end until second (aka "place") and third (aka "show) titles are also determined.
If by the time a player earns 7 points, there are just two other players with the next highest scores, then the game ends with "win," "place," & "show" titles going to the players with the first, second & third highest point totals, respectively. However, if a player earns 7 points and there is a tie for second and/or third, the game continues into playoffs to determine the "place" and "show" titles for that game.

FANTASY JAI-ALAI RULES:
• Every team must include exactly 3 SINGLES PLAYERS and 1 DOUBLES PAIR (4 total "players" per team).
• Your team value CANNOT exceed the allotted, fictitious $21 budget.
• Fantasy points are earned every time a player finishes in 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place, or "in-the-money," during the active week of play.
Points are distributed as follows:
Win (player finished 1st) = 5 points
Place (player finished 2nd) = 3 points
Show (player finished 3rd) = 1 point
• The weekly winner is determined by the total number of fantasy points collected by the end of an official week of play. The team with the highest fantasy point total, at the end of an active week, wins the weekly prize. If multiple teams share the highest point total, then the weekly prize is split evenly among all of the winning teams.
• You must submit your drafted team by 3:59 PM ET every Saturday (before the first performance of the week) to be valid. Your picks WILL NOT roll over from week to week.
PRIZES:
As of Feb. 6, 2021 - the weekly prize is $100 to a single weekly winner.
The cash prize will increase in accordance with the number of active players each week (i.e., 200 active players = $200 cash prize for the week).
If there is more than 1 winner in the same week, then the prize money from that week will be divided by the number of winning teams (minimum $25 guarantee).
There will also be a special end-of-the-season gift (courtesy of The Jai Alai Channel) given to the team that accumulates the most weekly wins over the entire Fantasy Jai-Alai season!
*Please do not create multiple team accounts. Anyone found to be managing more than one fantasy team in the league will effectively forfeit his/her weekly prize and potentially face disqualification from the league.
IMPORTANT DETAILS:
Player prices, stats, and other information is updated EVERY SINGLE WEEK.
You must submit a new team lineup every week to earn points.
You will receive an official email every Wednesday (unless otherwise noted) to confirm that you may begin drafting your team for the upcoming week of Fantasy Jai-Alai.
ADDITIONAL POLICIES:
Player prices are determined by several factors, including statistical averages, previous weeks' performances, and projected games played.
The weekly fantasy roster and associated prices are based on Magic City's published programs for Saturday and Sunday, which typically become available on their website on the Wednesday or Thursday of that same week.
These programs can be found on Magic City's Entries and Results webpage.
SCRATCHES/SUBSTITUTES:
NO POINTS ARE EARNED IN THE CASE OF SUBSTITUTIONS.
Your player(s) can only earn points for your team via the games in which they are originally scheduled to play in the official game programs (available online at Magic City’s website for every performance).
THIS MEANS:
Singles Games - Your team WILL NOT collect any fantasy points for any singles games from which your drafted player(s) have been scratched. Your team WILL NOT collect any points for any games in which your drafted player(s) are substitutes for the scratched player(s).
Doubles Games - Your doubles pairing WILL NOT earn any fantasy points if any player from that drafted pairing is absent.
*Substitutes for scratched players are determined and assigned at the sole discretion of Magic City Management.
