About
The Mad Rollin' Dolls are Madison, Wisconsin's premier women's flat track derby league.
Flat track roller derby is a fast-paced contact team sport that requires speed, strategy, and athleticism. The flat track version of the sport evolved in 2001, and has quickly grown to encompass more than 400 leagues worldwide. This is in large part due to the ease of setting up a flat track--it can be done on any flat surface that is suitable for skating, such as skating rinks, basketball courts, parking lots, and even airplane hangars. This greatly reduces the capital needed to start up a roller derby league, and allows small groups of people to get a fledgling league off the ground. The DIY spirit that drives the sport allows roller derby leagues to create their own unique identities and adapt their structures to reflect their local communities.
Scoring
Jammers accrue 1 Fantasy point for every point they score on the track, as well as 10 points for every time they earn lead jammer status Blockers accrue points in a different way. They earn points equal to 5x the number of jams they are in MINUS 3x the amount of points earned by the opposing jammer. ((5 x Y) - Z) x 3 where Y is equal to the number of Jams played in, and Z is the number of points "allowed" by that blocker. They also earn 2 points for every time their jammer is called Lead. All skaters earn points for avoiding penalties. They start off with 70 points, and for each penalty they earn, they will lose 10. (7 - X) x 10 where X is the number of penalties earned. NOTE: a skater cannot go into negative point values if she fouls out with 8 penalties. However, if a skater's total number of jams divided by 2 is less than 7, that number (rounded to an integer) will be used instead of 7. Select 5 skaters for each of MRD's seven home bouts.
