Welcome one and all to BQBL 2022! For those of you new to the show, welcome to fantasy football’s unpredictable, always-a-good-time, drunk cousin. For those of you returning, welcome back! We’re here to crank out the scoring for Fantasizr, and largely missing from last year, provide some weekly commentary. We’ll see how long we can keep it up before life does life things, but for now, let’s take a look at week 1. While certain results came as no surprise this week, e.g. Mahomes slapping owners with negative points, other outcomes were not quite anticipated.

Bengals/Rams

With Joe Burrow’s strong 2021 performance culminating in a Super Bowl appearance, you would expect a possible regression in 2022. However, in week 1 against the Steelers, amid average passing stats, Burrow managed to turn the ball over an alarming five times, including a pick six. Since the Grantland scoring heavily favors turnovers, this rocketed Cincy owners to the top of Week 1 with 82 points.

On the other side of last year’s Super Bowl matchup, the reigning champion Rams also got rocked in the NFL season opener on Thursday night. The Bills took down Stafford seven times, netting under 200 pass yards, and allowing three INT’s. All in all, Rams owners managed to collect 37 points to start off the season.

Packers

While non-Packers fans may not remember (Pepperidge Farm remembers), week 1 in 2021 was an absolute disaster. Against the Saints, Rodgers and Jordan Love combined for zero TD’s, two INT’s, and a lost fumble, and of course a benching. Starting off their 2022 campaign with a ragtag group of wide receivers to fill the void of Davante Adams, Rodgers again struggled to find any success, resulting in another late benching for Jordan Love, and another rough start to a season against a division rival. While it remains to be seen if they can turn things around, Rodgers and Love combined for 54 BQBL points.

Cowboys

One week in and we’re already talking about our first injury of the season. Apparently your hand has all of these little bones in it, and when you follow through on a pass straight through a helmet, bad things can happen. Dak Prescott had surgery on his thumb Monday and is primed for a quick return, but whether the Cowboys will stick with Cooper Rush or bring in someone else remains to be seen. Regardless, leading up to the injury, Tampa Bay was already giving Dak a pretty hard time. Coop didn’t close out the game well either. 36 points for the Cowboys.
